Privacy Policy
Version 2.0. Effective 22 July 2026. This public page is provided for Google Play, App Store, PWA users, Android users, iOS users and website visitors.
Overview
I Witness Australia is operated by Tame Dynamics. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store and protect information when you use the I Witness Australia website, progressive web app, Android app, iOS app, APIs, notifications, support services and related administrative tools.
I Witness Australia is a community safety awareness platform. It allows users to share first-hand community safety observations and receive relevant safety alerts. It is not an emergency service, official police-reporting channel or dispatch service. If anyone is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000).
Information we collect
We may collect account and profile information including your name, email address, mobile number, selected role, approval status, suburb, postcode, region, local government area, organisation name, security-company details, police-access application details, family-link details, child-account configuration, policy acknowledgements and support communications.
We may collect location information where required for platform features. This can include approximate location, suburb, postcode, latitude, longitude, location accuracy, geohash, region, watch zones, saved locations, alert locations, safe-arrival locations and, where separately enabled and consented to in the native app, background-location or movement-triggered location information. You can deny or disable location permissions, but some features may be limited or unavailable without location access.
We may collect user-generated content including community safety observations, alert descriptions, selected alert categories, supporting photos, videos, audio, speech transcripts, report-chat messages, group messages, media metadata, case notes, moderation reports and other information you choose to provide.
We may collect technical and device information including device identifiers, push-notification tokens, app version, platform, operating system, browser type, session records, IP address, diagnostic events, crash or error information, security logs, authentication events and anti-abuse signals.
We may collect billing and subscription information needed to manage paid plans. Card details are handled by payment providers such as Stripe, Apple or Google as applicable. I Witness does not store full payment-card numbers.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, verify access, provide community safety alerts, show nearby or watch-zone alerts, send notifications, manage subscriptions, support family safety features, operate child-mode controls, enable authorised police/admin workflows, operate group and chat features, manage alerts and media, provide support, investigate misuse, improve reliability and comply with legal or operational obligations.
We may use automated and manual review to help detect misuse, unsafe wording, duplicated alerts, spam, threats, harassment, unnecessary personal information, child-safety concerns, false or malicious reports, and other safety risks. Automated review is used as a support tool and does not make legal conclusions about guilt, offences or criminal responsibility.
Location and background location
Location is used to provide relevant local alerts, watch-zone notifications, alert mapping, safe-arrival features, family-safety features and native movement-based tracking where enabled.
Background or movement-triggered location is optional, requires separate permission and consent, and can be disabled. The app is designed to avoid continuously uploading repeated GPS points while stationary. Browser/PWA users do not receive native background GPS tracking.
Registration does not require Always Allow background location. Users can choose whether to provide location permissions and can adjust permissions through device settings or app settings, subject to feature limitations.
Notifications
We use push notifications and in-app notifications for urgent safety alerts, community safety observations, watch-zone alerts, family-link events, safe-arrival alerts, report-chat messages, group messages, account approval, billing status and service messages.
You can change notification preferences, subject to urgent safety and account-service notifications that may be necessary for the service. Device operating systems may also provide separate notification controls.
Who can access information
Access is role-based. Community users generally see only information available to them under their plan, location, watch zones, family links, groups or report/chat participation.
Police and System Admin users may have additional access where authorised for moderation, safety, investigation, support, audit or operational purposes. Reporter name, email, phone number, precise coordinates, sensitive notes and privileged records should be restricted to authorised police/admin access unless otherwise required by law or safety operations.
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information to service providers that help operate the platform, such as hosting, storage, email, maps, payment processing, analytics/diagnostics, push notifications and infrastructure providers.
We may disclose information where required or authorised by law, to protect safety, investigate misuse, respond to legal process, enforce terms, manage billing, or support authorised operational workflows.
Children and family linking
Child and family features are intended to be managed by a parent, guardian or authorised adult. Family linking can share selected location, alert and safety information with linked accounts.
Guardians should explain how the feature works and should not enable child-related features unless they have authority to do so.
Data storage and security
I Witness uses technical and organisational safeguards including authentication, role-based access control, encrypted transport, access logging, audit trails, signed media access where supported, and restricted administrative workflows.
No system is perfectly secure. You must keep your password and devices secure and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
Retention and deletion
We retain information for as long as reasonably required to operate the service, provide safety features, manage accounts and billing, investigate misuse, maintain audit trails, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, preserve records where required, or satisfy backup and disaster-recovery requirements.
Some records may be deleted, de-identified or anonymised instead of fully removed where deletion would compromise safety, audit, billing, fraud prevention, moderation, legal hold or other users' records.
Users can request account deletion in the app or by contacting support if they cannot access their account. Active subscriptions may also need to be managed through the relevant billing provider or app-store subscription controls.
Your choices and rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, subject to identity verification and lawful retention exceptions.
You can manage many preferences in the app, including notification preferences, account settings, family links and location permissions.
You can withdraw optional consent for features such as background location, but withdrawing consent may reduce or disable the related feature.
Overseas disclosure and providers
I Witness is designed around Australian service delivery and data-sovereignty expectations, but some service providers may process limited operational information outside Australia depending on their infrastructure, support, payment, email, maps, notification or diagnostic services.
We aim to limit disclosures to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant service.
Responsibilities and lawful use
Users must provide accurate information, keep credentials and devices secure, follow role restrictions, and comply with applicable Australian law.
Elevated access must be used only for an authorised operational purpose. Users must promptly report suspected misuse, unauthorised access, safety concerns, or inaccurate information that could materially affect another person.
Safety and emergency limitation
I Witness provides situational awareness and community-safety communication. It is not an emergency service, official reporting channel, or dispatch service, and must not replace Triple Zero (000), relevant authority channels, medical advice, or professional risk assessment.
Call 000 when life or property is in immediate danger.
Administration, records and enforcement
Tame Dynamics may retain records reasonably required to operate the service, investigate misuse, meet contractual or legal obligations, protect users, and demonstrate compliance.
Proportionate controls may include warnings, content restriction, suspension, termination, preservation of supporting records, audit review, and referral to an appropriate authority where legally required.

For privacy questions, access/correction/deletion requests, complaints, billing concerns or support, contact joshua.tame@tame-dynamics.com.
Do not send passwords, full card details, unnecessary sensitive information or emergency requests by email. Emergencies must go to Triple Zero (000).
Changes, severability and governing law
Material changes will be published with a new version or effective date and, where appropriate, renewed acknowledgement.
If any provision is invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to operate. This policy is governed by applicable Australian law and does not exclude rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.
